I received a call from my father this morning. He told me the decision had been made to shut off the breathing machine that was keeping my grandfather alive. I am at peace with the decision. Just minutes ago I got a call from my step mom who told me he passed this morning at 8:10am. He was 94 years old.
My grandfather Theodore “Teddy” Morris was the kindest man I have ever met. I can think of no greater compliment than to remember him as a kind and gentle soul. He never had a harsh word for anyone. He was pure goodness.
I feel blessed that I got to spend some time with him over the weekend. We talked, laughed, and shared memories. I also sang “Amazing Grace” to him. It was hard not to get choked up as I looked into his deep, soulful blue eyes. You see, I knew it would be the last time I saw him in this lifetime.
You never know when it will be the “last time” you visit with someone you love and who has had a great impact on your life. I am so thankful I got to hold his hand, look into his eyes, and express how much I love him with every note I sang.
Rest in peace Grandpa Teddy. I love you infinitely.
